The Forensic Medical Examination should be conducted as soon after the assault as possible, hopefully within 72 to 96 hours.

The exam includes:
  • Obtaining a history of the assault
  • Examining the victim’s general medical condition
    (e.g., allergies, prescriptions)
  • Assessing and photographing trauma, if present
  • Collecting biological and evidentiary samples
  • Collecting clothing items worn during the assault
