For Teens
Many survivors of sexual assault and abuse have
reported these feelings:
- Confusion, from not understanding why this happened
(or why someone would perpetrate such behavior)
- Panic/fear, of disclosure of an abuse event
- Anger, at themselves for letting this happen and
at those who did not protect them
- Relief, that the event is over
- Doubt, of their memory of the event
- Guilt, with feelings that the event was their fault
- Shame, from feelings that others will look down on them
after having experienced sexual assault
- Depression, from the inability to deal with the abuse
- Regret, from losing the friend, relative, or acquaintance
who perpetrated the assault
