For Teens
Many survivors of sexual assault and abuse have
reported these feelings:

  • Confusion, from not understanding why this happened
(or why someone would perpetrate such behavior)

  • Panic/fear, of disclosure of an abuse event

  • Anger, at themselves for letting this happen and
at those who did not protect them

  • Relief, that the event is over

  • Doubt, of their memory of the event

  • Guilt, with feelings that the event was their fault

  • Shame, from feelings that others will look down on them
    after having experienced sexual assault

  • Depression, from the inability to deal with the abuse

  • Regret, from losing the friend, relative, or acquaintance
    who perpetrated the assault
