How can I make my organization a safe place for children?

It is vital that organizations create a culture where child sexual abuse is discussed, addressed, and prevented. If your organization serves children, a sex offender will want to work for you.

Some organizations feel they lack the money, time, personnel and expertise to create a comprehensive child sexual abuse prevention plan. The fact is many strategies cost little or nothing implement. Committed volunteers understand the need to protect the children you serve.

Here’s how...

“Eyes Open” is a comprehensive local initiative centered around three key areas: Community Awareness, Education and Policy Improvement.

Community Awareness
Were you aware that 96% of victims know their abuser? Our network of community partners, all dedicated to keeping children safe, will present a coordinated and uniform message to the general public that adults must take responsibility for the safety and healthy development of our children.

Education
Training is offered to staff and volunteers at youth serving organizations, school staff and faculty, corporate Human Resources personnel, PTA groups and other volunteer organizations that serve area youth. Organizations will learn about high-risk situations and build the skills needed to respond appropriately when abuse is suspected.

As part of the training, groups learn about the four tools needed to protect children- Consciousness, Choice, Personal Power and Relentless Compassion-and learn about the program's "7 Steps to Protecting our Children."

Policy Improvement
All youth serving organizations in Winnebago, Calumet and Outagamie counties may have their current policies and procedures reviewed for effectiveness in preventing child sexual abuse. We'll work with organizations to improve their internal policies, procedures and training to raise knowledge and awareness about how to keep children safe from sexual harm.
